My greatest achievement is the success I've had in FFA Speaking Contests. The last four years, I have participated in Creed Speaking, Junior Public for one year, and Senior Public Speaking for two years. These are all varying levels of competition over different topics. I have qualified for state every year, and the last two years, I made finals at state. Junior year I received third at the state level, over 300 entries. I am proud of this because it was hard for me to overcome my social anxiety when I came into high school, but I did, and refined my public speaking skills.

Throughout my life, there have been many people who have inspired me. I have been blessed with a loving family, and many positive influences. However, of all the people who have taught, supported, and shaped me, Mr. Dale Clark has had the biggest influence on me, and made me who I am today. Mr. Clark was born with what the doctors referred to as a “dull leg.” They said he would never walk. Dale was walking before his third birthday. Later on, as he began his elementary education, he began to struggle with dyslexia. His third grade teacher told him he would never learn to read, and he would never amount to anything. Dale went on to obtain his doctorate in education, with an emphasis in history. He founded the Nebraska section of the Lewis and Clark trail, and wrote an entire program based upon research he conducted about their journey. Mr. Clark wrote all of the programs at Stuhr museum, in Grand Island, Nebraska, and obtained many of the things they have on display. Dale inspires me to beat all the odds and prove to myself that I can do anything I want to do, as long as I want it badly enough.
In honor of Easter, I thought I would bless you all with this cute, little story from my ultra-hick, rural Nebraska childhood. Once upon a time, in the metropolis of Thayer, NE, there was a little bar, called Max's Bar. Max happened to be my uncle, and since Thayer was a central location, it made the prime venue for our family gatherings. So, every Easter after church, we would take our colored eggs and out pineapple-roasted ham and find our place at Max's. After we ate and played cards, the adults would hide eggs for us little kids. One year, I was probably about six or seven, and Uncle Max was in charge of hiding the eggs. Between my little sister, a few cousins, and myself, we had found all but one egg in a little under fifteen minutes. Max informed us that there was only one left, and we searched desperately for it. Finally, we found it, but none of us were jumping to get it. Uncle Max had hidden it in a bullhead nest, right next to three other snake eggs.

1. This is one my dad says quite often because he thinks it's hilarious, even though it is not. Regardless, I'll pass this down to my children someday and make them rethink my sanity. "If you're ever being chased by coyotes, hide in the library. Coyotes can't read." 2. On a more serious note, I love all John Muir quotes, but I think one of my favorites goes like this. "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he receives." 3. Another quote I like to refer to whenever I feel like I want to wear sweatpants to schools is by Coco Chanel. "Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman." 4. My third grade teacher always used to say something that was fantastic, especially for 8-year-olds. "Life is hard, and then you die." Personally, I like that. 5. Finally, one of my favorite quotes comes from my grandpa. When I was about seven, that grumpy, old man said, "You know Gen, some girls are pretty and some girls are smart... It's a good thing you can tell a joke." 1. High Caffeine Tolerance
